About Ann

I’m Ann O’Brien: a dedicated mother, Mimi, community leader, champion for our neighborhoods, and District 1’s Representative on the Phoenix City Council. Phoenix is where I was born and raised and it’s where my husband and I started our family and raised two incredible kids, Amanda, a full-time mom and part-time math tutor, and Thomas, who is a project manager. And we’re so lucky to have recently welcomed our son-in-law Jordan and our first grandchild, baby Rylee, to the family.

On the City Council, my top priority has been to make Phoenix a safer, stronger, more affordable city. To combat rising rates of violent crime, I’ve successfully passed funding to hire additional police officers and firefighters. I’ve also worked to improve our streets and freeways, brought new jobs to our district, and supported real solutions to address our critical housing shortage and reduce homelessness. 

As a mother, my focus has always been on making our community as a whole better for every family. During a long career in real estate, I got involved in community service: coaching softball, substitute teaching, and serving as President of the Stetson Hills PTSA. I eventually ran for the Deer Valley Unified School District school board - and won - because I wanted to make a difference in our community’s schools.

In 2020, I realized our city was at a crossroads. Partisan division and finger pointing were getting in the way of real progress in our city. I ran for city council because I’m a mother who wants to make real change for our community and our future, not a career politician interested in partisan games.
